Visual Simulation

The DiSTI® Visual Simulation Techniques & Technology course builds on the background provided in the Military Simulation Techniques & Technology course. Students will become familiar with the wide range of technologies that go into the design, development and delivery of a visualization system. Students will gain the required skillset to begin the specification and procurement of a visual system. During this course a variety of 2D and 3D visual representations will be discussed with a strong emphasis on the use of commercial off-the-shelf technologies.

This course addresses many critical issues of visual simulation design and provides a practical approach to database development. In this class you will learn how:

  • Purchasing a visual system for your simulator can be a simple COTS buy -- if you understand how to articulate your requirements
  • Specifying, procuring, and validating visual databases requires a sound understanding of visual simulation technology.
  • Planning and developing a visual database is an engineering specialization that requires diverse knowledge from several disciplines.

Imagine you are tasked to build the next generation simulator. The materials presented will help students formulate answers to many critical questions faced by the simulation developer today including:

  • How do I define appropriate visual system and database requirements to meet simulation criteria?
  • What is a realistic expectation of performance and capabilities from various types of visual systems? What can I expect from a PC-IG visual system?
  • What are the issues involved in the development of a correlated visual database?
  • Visualization is not the only issue that a dataset development must support! What about the Semi-Automated Forces (SAF) models that must interoperate?
