ORLANDO, FL September 27, 2005 -
Distributed Simulation Technology, Inc. (DiSTI) was notified that the team comprised of UNITECH, DiSTI, Camber and DEI was awarded the Landing Craft Air Cushion (LCAC) Service Life Extension Program (SLEP) Maintenance Training Curriculum of Instruction contract by NAVAIR Orlando. The contract requirements blend approximately 200 hours of SLEP maintenance courses into the existing thirty-three day courses for Propulsion and Lift System Maintenance and Craft Control Systems Maintenance. The results will be a modified curriculum, with interactive 3D virtual components, for the LCAC SLEP maintenance personnel and relevant training devices used by students in hands-on laboratory exercises. Courseware and training devices will be produced and field tested within two years of contract award.
DiSTI expertise in developing PC Simulations will be used to support the Level 3 and Level 4 courseware that will be developed. In order to accomplish this task DiSTI will be using DiSTI’s GL Studio virtual prototyping tool and DiSTI’s VMTE (Virtual Maintenance Training Environment) which brings unprecedented realism to the Virtual Maintenance Market. As part of this effort, DiSTI will be producing a 3D interactive virtual LCAC that will be made up of Reusable Software Objects for use in both the Maintenance Training and Courseware portions of this contract. This award is valued at over $1,000,000 in professional services and GL Studio software licenses.
The LCAC is a non-self sustaining amphibious Air Cushioned Vehicle (ACV), used to transport up to 60-tons of equipment and/or troops, from ship to beachfront at speeds in excess of 40 knots. The primary mission of LCAC is to conduct high speed, ship-to-shore, over the beach operations in support of Marine amphibious forces. After being launched from the well deck of amphibious assault ships, the LCAC can transport equipment, personnel and weapon systems to the beach from over-the-horizon standoff distances.
