L-3 Communications upgrades AVCATT with GL Studio

GL Studio outperforms VAPS and is now the AVCATT standard

ORLANDO, FL, June 17, 2005 --- Distributed Simulation Technology, Inc. [DiSTI] a leading provider of software tools and components for the development of advanced visual and simulation applications, today announced that L-3 Communications, Arlington, TX has selected GL Studio for their next generation AVCATT Aircraft Display Re-Architecture Program.

L-3 Communications is under contract with the US Army to deploy these reconfigurable trainers. AVCATT reconfigurable simulators support the full mission spectrum undertaken by the services' attack, reconnaissance and utility helicopters. AVCATT reconfigurable training suites encompass five helicopter platforms, including the AH-64A Apache, OH-58D Kiowa Warrior, UH-60 Blackhawk, CH-47D Chinook and AH-64D Longbow. They provide for all the collective tasks required to train crews in the collective environment.

L-3 is using GL Studio to develop reconfigurable cockpit interfaces for the 5 airframes. GL Studio will be used to create roughly 60 instruments for the trainers. These instruments will be built from high-resolution imagery to give the soldier a photo-realistic experience. Many of the instruments are common among the airframes, with GL Studio's object oriented technology these instruments are built once and reused several times, saving the Army time and money.

With L-3's requirement for higher fidelity training and replication of the aircrafts, GL Studio was selected to replace VAPS due to many factors including use of photo-realistic images, graphics performance, use of object-oriented technology and ease of use in developing interfaces.
